Avail of Support

The Society can provide assistance in a number of ways including support, advice and financial assistance in the form of cash grants (non-repayable or repayable but interest free).  

Grants are payable to Members who are undergoing economic hardship and/or may not be able to avail of credit from a financial institution. The aim of the Society is not to replace the services of a financial institution where this is available. Grants are available for a wide variety of reasons including those associated with the essential costs of living, medical issues, critical legal services, financial difficulties, accommodation costs, and in the form of a funeral grant. The Society can assist with educational grants, including where applicable the refund of fees scheme, and in situations where lack of access to finance would prevent a member from pursuing further education

 The Society can also, with written permission, liaise with other financial institutions, MABS and salary sections where it may help to progress difficulties. 

Once an application for assistance is received, a Cases Officer from the Society will contact you to discuss various options with you and decide on a plan of action.  All relevant backup documentation should be provided in order to avoid any delay in processing your application. At all times, we keep you informed with timely information on how your application is proceeding.  

Members can apply for direct assistance or for assistance with an immediate family member

13 weeks continuous paid membership is required before making an application for assistance

Your application will then be presented to the Society’s “Cases Committee”. The Committee meets on a regular basis to consider applications and make the necessary decisions
